Robert "Bobby" Mattessich, age 56, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous and unwavering battle with colon cancer. Throughout his illness, Robert met every challenge with extraordinary strength, humility, and a passion for life that deeply inspired those around him. In his final months, the constant love and care of his family brought him comfort and joy.
Affectionately known as Bobby, he was a radiant presence in the lives of all who knew him. His life was defined by compassion, generosity, and an unshakable faith in God.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lina, and their son, Ryan, the joy of his life. Bobby was the devoted son of Anna Mattessich and the late Jerry Mattessich, and a cherished brother to MaryJane (John) Tarabocchia, John (Diane) Mattessich, and Jeff (Teresa) Mattessich. He will be lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Samantha (Jeff), Jonathan, Vanessa (Kelly), Jake, Christian, Nicholas, and great-niece Reese Tara.
Born in Hoboken and raised in Little Ferry, New Jersey, Bobby attended Ridgefield Park High School. He began his married life in Closter before settling in Ho-Ho-Kus, where he became a devoted and long-standing member of the community.
Bobby discovered a passion for carpentry at a young age, which blossomed into a successful career. He proudly founded and operated Top of the Line Contracting and Threefold Cabinetry, where he built a reputation over more than 30 years for excellence, honesty, and an uncompromising work ethic. His craftsmanship and commitment to quality left a lasting impression on every project he touched.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bobby found great joy in life's simple pleasures. He was an avid golfer and a proud member of Rockland Country Club, where he cultivated many close friendships. He also loved cruising and exploring new places, creating lasting memories with family and friends.
More than anything, Bobby's greatest joy and purpose in life was his family. He possessed a rare gift for making those around him feel seen, loved, and uplifted. His selfless spirit, generous heart, and infectious laughter touched all who had the privilege of knowing him. Bobby had an extraordinary ability to connect with people from all walks of life-his warmth and kindness truly made him one of a kind.
Bobby was predeceased by his loving in-laws, Maria and Domenico Mircovich. He was a beloved brother-in-law to Natalie (Ferruccio) Morin, Maria Mircovich, Dina (Stelio) Picinic, and the late Domenick Mircovich, husband of Marla Mircovich. His memory is treasured by his nieces and nephews: Mario (Lynn), Laurie (Leo), Brian, Greg (Megan), AnnMarie (Joey), TJ (Jennifer), Domenico, Marisa (Gabe), Luiza, and great-nieces and nephews: Amber, Olivia, Marina (Gabe), Teresa, Francesco, Leo, Jackson, Bailey, Odus, and Hubert.
Bobby shared a close bond with the priest of St. Gabriel's Church in Saddle River, where he found spiritual support and lasting friendship.
Though his physical presence is gone, Bobby's spirit lives on in the hearts of all who loved him. May his memory be a blessing, and may we continue to honor his legacy of love, compassion, and kindness. We ask that he be remembered not for how his life ended, but for how he lived-with grace, purpose, and a profound impact on all who knew him.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the wake on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave, Wyckoff, NJ 07481, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
