Anthony Frank Mauriello, affectionately known to his family and friends as "Tony" or "Bud," passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at the age of 70.
Born in Paterson, N.J. to Anthony C. and Lucile M. (nee: Southard) Mauriello, he grew up in Bergen County before settling in Montague, N.J. Tony had a 40-year career with The International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 825, Springfield, N.J. as a crane operator. Anthony was the lead engineer on several high profile projects in N.J. and N.Y. including the Bayonne Bridge, where he was affectionately called, "The Bridge Boss." He also was a crane operator for the Tappan Zee Restoration, Newark Airport parking garage, and numerous high rise construction projects in N.J. He worked both on land and water. Tony also brought in and operated heavy equipment during the 9/11 crisis in NYC. Anthony was a mentor to many crane operators during his career, which spanned over 40 years beginning as a teen working with his father on construction sites and then later with his son, Anthony, also as a crane operator. His hobbies included working on small equipment at his home horse farmette and being a horse show dad. Anthony played the drums since he was a child, also playing in a band during his younger years. Retirement allowed him to fulfill a lifelong passion of owning a boat, which he enjoyed at the Jersey Shore with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Predeceased by his parents, he is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Dr. Lisa Toaldo; devoted children, Lisa T. Mauriello, Sara Mauriello, Anthony Mauriello, Joseph Mauriello, and step-son, Jason Reardon; treasured grandchildren, Olivia, Bella, Frankie, Gemma and Scarlet; and sister, Toni-Lu Martin.
Visitation will be on Sunday, April 10, 2022 from 3-7 p.m. at Shook's Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Ave., Cedar Grove, N.J. A graveside service will be offered on Monday, April 11, 2022 at 12 Noon at Hackensack Cemetery, 289 Hackensack Ave., Hackensack, N.J. Please gather directly at the cemetery.
