Anthony “Tony” W. Nicholson, age 81 of Appleton, WI passed away on October 27, 2025. He was born to the late William and Genevieve (Semrau) Nicholson on August 17, 1944 in Oshkosh, WI. He was the eldest of 5 children, including Marjorie Vesser (d. 2011), Kenneth Nicholson, Mary Nicholson, and Michael Nicholson. Tony started working early in his life, but his longest-lasting career was with Neenah Foundry, faithfully working for them for 42 years before finally retiring.
Tony was quite the character and always had a heart of gold. He enjoyed being social with his friends and family, often going out to eat and dancing. Tony had a knack for putting things together, even jerry-rigging his oxygen tanks so he could maneuver around the house better. He enjoyed taking his boat out onto the lake and found peace in fishing whenever he had the chance. Tony was a very organized person – he had a place for everything and everything was in its place. If you were lucky, you might have caught Tony driving to the tavern on his tractor in Downtown Appleton. Tony lived life the best way he knew how and tried to help his friends and family live the best life they could too.
Tony will be missed by several siblings; many nieces and nephews; a number of extended relatives; and many dear friends, especially his retired friends from the Neenah Foundry.
Tony is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marjorie.
A funeral visitation will be held from 9:30 – 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior St, Appleton, WI 54911 with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM. Tony will be laid to rest with his parents at Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Oshkosh, WI.
Tony’s family would like to send a special thanks to Mary Nicholson and Antoinette Lester for helping to take care of Tony in his final years.
