Tony Policare passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, April 21st after a relentless battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of twenty years, Amanda (Frapwell) Policare and his sons Anthony Michael IV (19), Max Phillip (16), and James Patrick (13). His parents, Anthony and Sue Policare (Vestal, NY) and brother, Matthew Policare (Nicole Policare). Many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles also survive him.
Tony was a lot of things to a lot of people. Coach, Friend, Mentor, Brother and Son, most importantly a Husband and Dad. Tony dedicated all his time and energy to his family, especially his boys. Undoubtedly, you could always find him out on a baseball field, beside a mat, or with his passion on a football field, coaching his boys and their friends. Few people get the honor of being called Coach. He was one of them. He was able to touch countless lives through his dedication and love for sports and coaching; but moreover, his love to help children, especially those less fortunate. Tony, himself, was a star athlete. He played football, baseball, and wrestled in high school and continued to play college football at Austin Peay and the University at Buffalo. He studied Health and Human Services and went on to coach the offense at his alma mater (10 years), the University at Buffalo. It was with the Bulls that he met the love of his life, Amanda. They would go on to raise three boys and settle here in the Southern Tier. Later in life he was honored to be able to coach his high school Alma mater, Vestal where he led a successful program to their first Sectional win in over 16 years.
Tony gave selflessly until it hurt. He never complained of the pain. He battled a carcinoma that would have sidelined many. Despite setbacks, he rolled into every game, every event and if it was not his kids, he was there for his friends' kids. The vast number of people whose lives were touched by Tony was innumerable.
Tony's impact will live on through our memories and through the lives of his boys. The family would like to thank Broome Oncology and Guthrie Hospice for their amazing support and care.
Funeral Services for Tony will be held on Monday, April 28 at 12 pm at Endwell United Methodist Church, 3301 Watson Blvd, Endwell. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 27 at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 E. Main Street, Endicott. from 12-3 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you send any donations to Maine-Endwell Youth Football, 275 Hillside Terrace, Endwell, NY 13760.
