In Loving Memory of Anthony J. Suriano
Anthony (Tony) Suriano, age 91, of Fairfield, CT, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather, passed away on July 12, 2025 at his home, surrounded by his family. Born January 8, 1934, to the late Dominick Suriano and Lucille Genadio, Anthony touched the lives of many with his gentle kindness and unwavering love. He spent most of his life on Long Island, his early years in Oceanside, New York, briefly moving to East Rockaway, New York and finally retiring to Fairfield, Connecticut almost thirty years ago. Growing up he enjoyed fishing, finding various critters in the marshes, and swimming at the local beach. He was proud of his enormous Newsday paper route and was rewarded with a new bike for his dedicated service. Anthony attended Oceanside High School and was honored that all three of his children were alumni as well. After high school, Anthony enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served on the USS Mississippi during the Korean war. He was honorably discharged in October, 1959, after 8 years of service. He then began his career as an offset printer, first working for New York Newsday, and later in New York City for Alexander Offset Company, Inc., Art Power and Merchandising Workshop, Inc. After marrying his wife of nearly 65 years, Dorothy, whom he fondly called Dotty, they bought their first home and moved back to Oceanside, NY where they raised their family.
Anthony loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his famous barbecue chicken on the grill along with corn on the cob. He loved working outside on the lawn, trimming the hedges, his grape vines on the fence, the small vegetable garden and his beautiful cherry tree which could be seen for blocks when in bloom. Well into his eighties, he could be found puttering on his lawn virtually every day. He took immense joy in shoveling the snow and snow blowing, refusing to wait for us to get there to help. He would only smile when we would ask why it looked like the car slid down the hill sideways.
He loved going for ice cream with Dotty, sitting in their car at Sasco Beach to eat their Dairy Queen sundaes. It was a reminder of the simple days raising their children and grandchildren and going to Friendly's or Carvel after each event, after their activities or when they came to visit. Anthony was devoted and passionate about bowling and loved to play with friends at Nutmeg Bowl with the Fairfield Senior leagues on Monday and Friday. They were so kind to him and helped him celebrate his 90th birthday. In his later years, he enjoyed the simple pleasure of watching old movies with Dotty on the TV. But most of all, he loved spending time with Dotty, his children, and grandchildren.
Tony was predeceased by his best friend and loving wife of sixty-four years, Dotty. He is survived by his daughter, Mary LeClerc and her husband, Bryan, of Fairfield, CT, and their children Sarah Costagliola (Nicholas),and Christopher, great granddaughter Olive Costagliola; his son, Stephen Suriano and his wife Anne of Westfield, NJ, and their children Meghan (Jonathan Graulich), Emily and Robert; and his daughter Catherine Singer and her husband, Andrew, of East Setauket, NY, and their children Elizabeth and Jonah. Tony also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and his loving and caring aide, Valerie Legagneur, Kenny and their daughter Ciara.
A Mass of Christian burial to celebrate Anthony's life will be held on August 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 834 Brookside Drive, Fairfield. His interment will be held privately. May Anthony rest in eternal peace, and may his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his loss.
