Anthony Tortorello Obituary

Anthony Tortorello, 74, of Morris Township, passed away on Monday, May 12, at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center. He passed after a brief battle with an illness.
Surviving are the wife of Anthony's late brother Carmine, Barbara Tortorello; her two sons, John and Joseph; Anthony's brother-in-law and wife, Gerard and Robin; and their two daughters, Camryn and Juliana, and many cousins. His wife of 27 years, Carolyn G. Tortorello, passed away in February 2025.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, May 18, at Bradley-Braviak Funeral Home, 49 Whippany Rd. Whippany, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Mass will be held on Monday, May 19, at Notre Dame of Mount Carmel, 75 Ridgedale Ave. Cedar Knolls at 10:00 AM. Entombment Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
Known to his friends as "Tort," he grew up in Newark. He graduated from Eastside High School, in Newark, and Kean University, in Union, in 1972, with a B.A. in political science. After marrying Carolyn, the couple honeymooned in Italy, then moved to Madison. Ultimately, they retired in Morris Township.
The friendships he formed in childhood lasted a lifetime; every month for years, a small group from the old Newark neighborhood got together for dinner and laughs at a local restaurant. This tradition expanded later in life, to include other friends and family. He was known for his quick wit, easy smile, and ability to bring joy to any situation. He will be missed dearly.
He and Carolyn were active in their church. They taught Pre-Cana, coordinated the youth ministry's outreach local high schools, was a Eucharistic Minister and for several summers Anothny joined others from his church to travel to Guatemala to build houses for the locals.
A passionate sports fan, Anthony was a season ticket holder for the New York Jets and New York Mets. He also loved the beach, where he summered with friends, and travelled around the world, by ship and plane, to countries such as Canada, Egypt, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Croatia, Isreal, Panama, and Turkey.
Anthony built a career in the transportation industry. He retired as a sales manager in 2015 for A. Duie Pyle, a transportation and logistics company.
