Antonietta Volino Dalia, loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025, at her home in Poughkeepsie, surrounded by her family. She was 92 years old.
She was born on September 16, 1932, in Moschiano, Avellino, Italy, to Domenico and Francesca Volino. Antonietta's life was one of deep devotion to her family, faith and traditions. In 1952, in Italy, she married the love of her life, Sabato Dalia. In 1955, they courageously left their homeland to settle in the United States, bringing with them the values of love, family, hard work, and the rich traditions of their Italian heritage.
For many years, Antonietta, affectionately known as "Mama", was the heart and soul of DD's Pizza, the family restaurant where her warm smile and generous spirit made everyone feel like family. Whether she was rolling out dough, stirring her homemade sauce, or greeting customers with a kind word, her presence was a source of comfort and joy to all who knew her.
Antonietta devoted her life to creating a haven of love and warmth for her family. She found true happiness in preparing her famous Sunday dinners, filling the house with the aroma of her homemade sauce, pasta, and meatballs. Those meals were expressions of love, bringing her family together around the table in a way only she could. She also enjoyed spending time with her sisters, especially their evening conversations on the porch, tending to her garden, sewing, and attending Mass at Mt. Carmel Church.
Antonietta was predeceased by her beloved husband, Sabato, her son Saverio Dalia, brother Sabato Volino, brothers in law Vincenzo Scala and Michele Buonaiuto, brothers and sisters in law Vincenzo and Felicetta Dalia, and Carmine and Maddalena Vona.
She will be deeply missed by her children, Domenico and Michelina Dalia of Peekskill, Anthony and Margaret Dalia of Wappingers Falls, and Franco and Kelly Dalia of Poughkeepsie. She was a devoted Nonna to Antonietta Dalia, Sabato Dalia, Vincenzo Dalia, Elizabeth (Sean) Davids, Rachel (JJ) Shields, Sabato Dalia, Antonietta Dalia, Anthony Dalia, Antonio Dalia and Leo Dalia along with several great grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear sisters, Maria Buonaiuto and Rosa Scala and brother-in-law Antonio Dalia, as well as extended family members.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Sunday, March 30, 2025, from 4pm to 8pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave, Poughkeepsie NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 31, 2025, at 10am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 95 Mill St, Poughkeepsie NY, followed by entombment at St. Peter's Cemetery.
