Age 90. Died peacefully Sunday morning July 28, 2024.
Antonietta is the beloved wife of the late Alessandro (d. 2003); cherished mother of Adriana (John) McCulloch of Royal Oak, Antonio (Rosemarie) Picano of Sterling Heights and Raffaele Picano of Beverly Hills; loving "Nonna" of Catherine (Richard) Waligora of Troy, JoAnna (Victor) Vulcu of Royal Oak, Nicholas (Flavia) Picano of Troy, Kristofer (Julie) Picano of Troy, John McCulloch (Bridget) of Rochester Hills, Allegra Picano of Royal Oak and Corrina Picano of Beverly Hills. Mrs. Picano is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Lucy, Scarlett, Emilio and Livia.
Antonietta Ferrelli was born in Cassino, Italy in 1933. Her family lived adrift in the mountains for nine months, while war waged around them. In 1955, after a 40-day courting period, she married her husband, Alessandro, and moved to the United States in 1956. The couple raised their three children, living in Detroit until 1973 before moving to Sterling Heights, where Antonietta lived until 2022. In addition to raising her family, Mrs. Picano was a seamstress for friends and family and worked in the family restaurants (Gregg's Pizza, Picano's Italian Grille and Antonio's Italian Cuisine) until her retirement at age 88. Known as a fantastic cook, she hosted many dinner parties and took pride in opening her home nearly every week to anyone who could make it for "Sunday Dinner." She was happiest when people were enjoying a meal around her table. Cherished by all, Antonietta was selfless, had a quiet calming demeanor, and was always looking for and bringing out the best in everyone. She will be missed by many.
