Antonio Ramon Cumpian Sr.

March 10, 1938 – September 24, 2025

Antonio "Tony" Cumpian Sr., age 87, passed away peacefully at his home in Carrizo Springs, Texas, surrounded by his loving family on September 24, 2025.

Tony was born in 1938 in Crystal City, Texas, to Hortencia and Humberto Cumpian. During his high school years, he worked as a migrant farm worker alongside his family. He attended Crystal City High School, where he was a proud member of the "Team of the Decade"-the 1956 Regional Championship Baseball team. With the encouragement and support of Superintendent Tate-who personally drove him to the college tryouts-Tony pursued his passion for the sport at the collegiate level. He continued his education at Sul Ross State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree and played baseball on scholarship.

After graduating, Tony returned to his hometown of Crystal City as a teacher and coach, later moving to Carrizo Springs, where he continued his career in the classroom and on the baseball field. Among Tony's proudest achievements as a coach was guiding the Carrizo Springs Wildcats to their first district baseball championship in the school's history, a milestone that brought lasting pride to both the school and community.

Tony's dedication to his students and their families extended beyond the classroom-from driving the school bus and teaching driver's education to volunteering at the Special Olympics and helping students secure jobs throughout the community.

Most of all, Tony was a man of many joys-baseball, golfing, and fishing among them-but his greatest love was his family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather (Tata), and friend, he was always ready with a taco in hand and a laugh to share. Above all, he taught his family through both his words and his actions, modeling a life of hard work and dedication.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Antonio Cumpian Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Isabel; daughters Sandra and Sonia; son-in-law Michael; grandchildren Annika, Micaela, and Miguel; siblings Roberto (Betin), Tina, Olga, and Lupe; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family who will carry his memory forward.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to everyone who touched Tony's life with their friendship, care, and support.
