April E. Stevens

April E. Stevens, nee Cockerell, age 70 of Palatine. Loving mother of Cassandra (Mark) Blas; devoted MeMa of Annalise Blas; cherished sister of Laura Cockerell and the late John Cockerell Jr.; preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and John Richard Cockerell Sr.; relative and friend of many.
April was born and raised in Evanston, IL. She graduated from New Trier West High School in 1973. Shortly after high school April struck out on her own and moved to Colorado Springs, CO. Not long after having her daughter, she moved back to Illinois to be near family and raised Cassie in Des Plaines, IL. In 1998, she graduated Summa Cum Laude from DePaul University with a Bachelor of Arts with an emphasis in Marketing. One of her proudest moments was graduating college the same year as her daughter while still working full time and being a single mother.
April moved on to project management in marketing with various companies in order to use her new degree. Her most recent job, which she really enjoyed, was with the creative department of Sherwin Williams as a label project manager. She was an amazing co-worker, the most caring neighbor and an outstanding gift giver. April loved classic rock music, spending time with her sister Laura, daughter Cassie and granddaughter Annalise. April was a bright light in so many people's lives, and she will be so dearly missed.
A memorial service will be held Saturday November 22, 10 AM at Parkview Community Church, 765 St. Charles Rd. Glen Ellyn, IL 60137. Interment Private. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Phil's Friends, St. Judes or Feed the Children are appreciated. For more info: 630-932-1500 or www.knollcrest.net.
