Archer Bailey, age 78, of Sharon Center OH, passed away peacefully at his Twinsburg home on Thursday, November 27 with his wife by his side. He was born on December 24, 1946, in Cleveland to Archer and Margaret (Watkins) Bailey.
Arch was a devoted father and grandfather, passionate professional Air Traffic Controller and fiercely battled Parkinson's for 20 years.
Arch joined the army in 1966 where he trained to become an Air Traffic Controller and served in Korea during the Vietnam War. After completing his service, he landed his dream job at the Cleveland Tower as a professional ATC and became active with PACTO, the industry union. After being fired for striking in 1981, he dedicated his life to fighting for the controllers' right to work and improved working conditions.
He loved cars, airplanes and occasionally playing golf. He spent a lot of his time working in his yard and garden, which were beautiful. He was a hardworking man who loved his family. He loved to watch his daughter and granddaughters' dance.
Skip completed a coast-to-coast bike trip in 2009 with Arch driving closely behind, to raise money and awareness for Parkinson's.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bill, his in-laws, Joann and William, and his sister-in-law, Barbara "Kip."
Archer is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Cindy, his children: Archer "Skip" (Emily), Joann "Joey" (Rich), and granddaughters: Lilia, Chelsea, Adalyn and Eloise, his sisters: Barb (Tom), Christine (Steve), and Meg, brother-in-law Dr. Joseph Kozlowski, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 4th, at Our Saviour Church, 1605 Center Rd., Hinckley. A service will follow at 11:00 AM. Interment with full military honors will take place at Western Reserve National Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the church following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Michael J Fox Foundation to support a cure for Parkinson. Arrangements are entrusted to Carlson Funeral Home, Medina.
