Ardath Garrett "Sonny" Gunn, born on August 23, 1933, in Santa Maria, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, in Nederland, Texas, surrounded by his loving family.
A devoted family man and cherished member of his community, Sonny leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.
As a steadfast member and Deacon of the Park Central Church of Christ, Sonny found great joy and fulfillment in his church family, sharing his warmth and kindness with everyone he encountered. His love for his family was the cornerstone of his life, demonstrating the importance of togetherness and support in all aspects of life.
Sonny is survived by his beloved wife, Jean Fisk Gunn of Nederland; his daughter, Karen Martinez, and her husband, Daniel of Nederland; his son, Andrew Gunn, and his wife, Courtney of Galveston, Texas; and his son, Alan Gunn, and his wife, Chris of Hilo, Hawaii. He treasured his grandchildren, Victoria Young and her husband, Jesse, Garrett Martinez, Jaxon Waddell, and Bulan Gunn, as well as his precious great-grandchild, John Lee Young. His legacy continues through the lives he touched, teaching values of compassion and strength.
He is also survived by his sister, Betty Ann Handsley of Corpus Christi, Texas; his brother, Danny Gunn of Laredo, Texas; and his sister, Peggy Barber of Kerrville, Texas, who hold fond memories of their time together.
Sonny cherished the outdoors and was a member of the Mid-County Breakfast Lions Club, where he enjoyed giving back to his community and participating in various charitable endeavors.
He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Edith Gunn, as well as two sisters, Coretta Wilkinson and Sue Edwards and one brother, Cardell Gunn, whom he holds dear in memory.
The family would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice for the excellent care they took of Sonny.
A visitation will be held on October 4, 2025, at Park Central Church of Christ, located at 3901 Jimmy Johnson Boulevard, Port Arthur, Texas, 77642, starting at 9:30 AM. This will be followed by a funeral service at the same location, commencing at 11:00 AM. Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate the remarkable life of Ardath Garrett "Sonny" Gunn, honoring the legacy of love and unity he leaves behind.
