Ardelle Hillerud, 93, Towner, formerly of Granville, ND, died Monday, August 8, 2022, in a Rugby care facility.
Ardelle Ione Hiller was born on December 28, 1928, a daughter of Harry and Matilda (Everson) Hiller in Granville, ND. She was raised in Granville and graduated from Granville High School. Prior to her marriage, Ardelle was employed at the Model Caf in Granville. On June 4, 1947, she was united in marriage to Stener Short Hillerud in Granville.
Following their marriage, Short and Ardelle farmed south of Norwich until moving to the irrigation farm west of Upham in 1953. In 1956, they moved south of Sawyer and farmed there until 1960, when they purchased the family farm south of Norwich from Short's parents. Short and Ardelle retired from farming and remained on the farmstead until November 2011, when they relocated to Towner. Ardelle continued to live in Towner with the support of her family, friends and neighbors.
Ardelle will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will truly be missed. We couldn t have asked for a more loving and gracious mother. She was an amazing cook and some of the favorites were lefse, donuts, divinity, caramel, fudge, popcorn balls, and the list goes on and on. You could drop in any time for a cup of coffee, good conversation and something homemade. Her children were always amazed by her ability to recall people, places, and events. Her cards for remembrance of birthdays and special occasions were a sign of her thoughtfulness.
Ardelle was a member of First Lutheran Church of Granville and attended Zion Lutheran Church in Towner. She also participated in Bible studies, Bunco, and was active with the senior citizen groups in Granville and Towner. In her spare time, she enjoyed weekly quilting and fellowship. Ardelle AKA Grandma Dell attended many sporting and school events supporting her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ardelle is survived by her children: Sharon (Larry) Hillerud, Arlington Heights IL, Marsha Yoder, Minot; Laurie (Jerry) Grosz, Bismarck; Becky(Larry) Johnson Minot; David (Karla) Hillerud, Jamestown; Danny (Mary) Hillerud, Hazen; Lonny (Bonnie) Hillerud, Grand Forks, and Trent Hillerud, Jamestown; 22 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Shirley and Harold Harmon; along with several nieces and nephews.
Ardelle was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 64 years, (Short); son, Larry Hillerud; sisters, Alvina (Klem) Brunner and Arlys (Jeff) Pennington; brothers, Homer (Doris) Hiller, Johnny Hiller and Junior (Gladys) Hiller.
