Areland Jean "AJ" Moon passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at his home in St. Anthony.

He was born on October 14, 1937 in Ashton, Idaho to Samuel and Ivy May Dixon Moon.

He grew up on the family farm in Sarilda with four brothers and two sisters. He liked to hunt and fish and was always cracking a joke. Areland attended a one room grade school and graduated from North Fremont High School.

He served in the U.S. Army from September 1958 until November 1963. He married Terri Mace on September 24, 1965 and they had nine children and two step-children.

He worked at and retired from the Idaho Stud Mill in St. Anthony. He liked to help others. He taught 4H and scouts and worked in Family History and was able to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Family Search program.

He was finally able to go to his 50th state last year completing a goal which he had for a long time.

Areland is survived by his wife Terri; children, Clark Moon (Brandy Smith), Sam Moon (Elaine), Pauleina Hansen (Mark), Bobby Moon, Lynda Mason, Adam Moon, Cheryl Scott (Thomas), Kelly Moon (Brenda Bolinder), step-children Mark Babcock and Anna King. He is also survived by his brother Ellsworth (Janine) Moon; 31 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Areland Jean Moon II, his parents and 6 siblings.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Teton-Newdale Cemetery where he will receive military rites.

Arrangements have been under the direction of Bert Flamm Mortuary.
