Mother Aretha M. Mitchell-Miles was born on April 25, 1942 to the late, Isaiah Mitchell, and Florene Key-Mitchell in Moultrie, Ga. (Miller County). She was educated in the public school system of Tift County, Ga. She was married just short of (65) years to Jessie Miles, and to this union four children were born: two sons and two daughters.
Mother Miles was baptized in Jesus' name and received the gift of the Holy Ghost under the leadership of the late, Mother Jonathan Green, at St. James Holiness Church in Screven, Ga. She loved and served the Lord faithfully and never desired to miss a service or Sunday School. She also served on the usher board, in the choir, on the kitchen committee and in any capacity in which she was needed. Regardless of what was going on at church, she felt in her soul and spirit that she had to be there. She was committed to serving Her God. For many years you could very often find her playing her music and singing while she cleaned the church on any given Saturday afternoon. She had a great love and passion for God's House. You would often hear her witnessing and telling others about being saved, living holy, and living righteous. She was truly a Faithful and Steadfast servant of God. Her Faithfulness inspired others to attend church and wanted to be saved. Mother Miles moved to Atlanta, Ga in her later years, but her faith did not waiver. She continued to hold on to her God. After a while she decided to return back to Screven. In her spare time, she enjoyed exercising, walking her dogs, gardening, cooking (baking), and spending time with her family. No one seemed to get enough of her homemade pound cakes. She was employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Wayne Memorial Hospital before retiring after (32) years of service.
After the passing of her late Pastor, Mother Jonathan Green, she embraced and continued to serve faithfully under the late Suffragan Bishop Arthur D. Green at Greater St. James Temple Church of the Apostolic Faith in Screven, Ga. She served under her sister, Pastor Havannah Green for three years after her brother-in-law, Bishop Arthur D. Green passed. Mother Miles departed this life on Friday, October 3, 2025, at her residence following a lengthy illness, she was preceded in death by both parents, Isaiah and Florene Mitchell, her daughters, Dorothy E. Miles-Rodgers and Louise Bouquia; her sister, Mary D. Mitchell Tomberlin; her brothers, John Wesley Prather, Alfonso Mitchell, Milton Mitchell, Willie C. Mitchell, and K.C. Mitchell; and one grandson.
Those left to cherish her memories: her loving and devoted husband, Deacon Jessie Miles, Jesup, Ga; two sons: Jessie (Eva Mae) Miles, Jr. Atlanta, Ga; and Robert (Mae) Miles, Sr. Syracuse, NY; two sisters: Evangelist Dorothy (Bishop John) Myers, Montgomery, Alabama; and Pastor Havannah Green, Jesup, GA: one brother, Joe Nathan Mitchell, Atlanta, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Blanche N. Miles, Orlanda, Fl; one brother-in-law, Walter (Alice) Miles, Savannah, Ga; (10) grandchildren, (12) great grandchildren; (5) godsons; (8) goddaughters; (3) close friends, Louise Rawls, Illinda Attical, and Martha Jones-Mitchell; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her church family who will certainly miss her.
