I have been out of touch with Arlene and Butch for the past few years and was so sorry to hear that my dear friend Arlene had passed. she was a mentor for me when I first began work at Centel in Charlottesville in the early 80's. We became fast friends (as did everyone who knew her.) She was one of those people you just found to be so genuine and such a character! I loved her.
I moved to Florida after my husband died about 8 years ago and lost touch with Arlene. I have many memories of her that I cherrish. Whenever I had a work type question in the years that followed, I would call her and she would give me the very best advice. I didn't know she had died. Her husband, family and friends must miss her terribly. Linda Jones (Siesta Key, Florida)

I was sorry to hear about Arlene. We worked together for many years at the phone company and had many good times together, at least she is not suffering anymore. I was unable to get to the memorial to be with the family, but my heart goes out to each and every one of you. May God bless and keep you and guide you through all of this.

Arlene's Christmas Tree

Arlene was one of a kind. I was most fortunate to have shared a close and supportive friendship with her for 36 years. Neither distance nor shifting priorities ever got in her way when it came to extending her friendship. She was one of the most accepting human beings I've ever known. My partner put up a little Christmas tree yesterday that is decorated with all of the wonderful ornaments Arlene gave our son over the past few years. We look at it now and see the warm light of her kind heart glowing from the branches.
