Arlette Tharp Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jones & Casey Funeral Home - Salmon on Dec. 16, 2025.
Arlette Marceil Westfall Tharp, 94, passed away peacefully at The Meadows in Salmon, Idaho on December 11, 2025. Born December 30, 1930 in Anchorage, Alaska to Alvin Culver and Ione Dandliker, Arlette was the first child in her family, with two sisters to follow.
She spent her early grade school years in Alaska, later moving to Idaho where her family spent time in the Hughes Creek area and later the Yankee Fork, following work in the mining industry. Arlette married Arden Westfall in 1948 and had two sons, Doug and Chris.
She moved to Pocatello and worked at Idaho State University for many years. She married Stan Tharp in 1980 and spent many happy years together until his passing in 2009.
Arlette regularly attended the Methodist Church in Pocatello and especially enjoyed the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons.
She lit up every time her family, especially her great grandchildren, visited her. She donated generously to causes close to her heart, and she spent many hours each week reading her bible. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.
Arlette is preceded in death by her son Chris Westfall, husband Stan Tharp, granddaughter Krista Meador, and sister Shirlene Roper. She is survived by her son, Doug Westfall; stepson, Stan (Danna) Tharp; sister Sharon (Doug) Terry; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Arlette's family would like to thank the staff at The Meadows, Salmon Valley Hospice, and Steele Memorial Hospital for being so kind and taking such good care of Arlette in her final years, weeks, and days.
Arlette will be laid to rest in the Gibbonsville Cemetery with a private graveside service, and a spring celebration of life is planned for family traveling from out of the area.
