Arline Liberty Keng

Arline was born at home in Giddings, Texas on January 16, 1931, the youngest daughter of Laura (Mueller) and Ben Liberty. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1944, and began her first job at the age of 16.
After graduation as valedictorian of the Giddings High School class of 1948, she attended Blinn College, and then joined the workforce as a secretary. She married Thomas Winston Keng on August 18, 1950, and they had 3 children – Steven, Kathy and Judy.
After the children were in school, Arline worked as the secretary to the District Clerk, the Abstract Company, and then retired from the Giddings Elementary School after 20 years of service. However, she considered her most important and rewarding job was raising her 3 children, who were a source of many years of joy and pride.
Music was her favorite pastime, and Arline sang alto in church choirs, beginning at the age of 13, and participated until she was 84. She and her son Steven were in the chorus in the Madame Butterfly production, and sang in The Messiah performance several times. She also sang in the Blinn College choir and was a self-taught piano player.
In addition to music, she was an active volunteer with Rejuvenation for over 20 years, and a member of the church volunteer visitation teams. Arline prepared and shared food with various friends for more than 25 years, and continued this until she was over 90 years old.
Arline went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Towers Nursing Home in Smithville. She was pre-deceased by her parents, husband Winston (of 52 years); and her son, Steven; brothers, Herbert, Ben and Marvin Liberty; and sister, Irma (Liberty) Moehlman.
She is survived by: 2 daughters– Kathy (John) Ray and Judy (Jeff) Keaghey, of Giddings; 6 grandchildren, Corrie (Justin) Jones, Kelly Ray, Kasey Ray, Jason Keaghey, John Erik (Ashley) Ray and Stephanie Keng; 7 great-grandchildren – Brason Jones, Reese Hanssen, Ryan Hanssen, Grant Slouffman, Addison Ray, Brooks Ray, Erik Ray and Cameron Ray. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends and neighbors. She was so loved by so many.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM and Friday, October 18, 2024 from 7:00 AM until 8:00 AM at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present Thursday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be at Martin Luther Lutheran Church at 573 North Main Street in Giddings, at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 18, 2024 with Rev. Blake Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Giddings City Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Keaghey, John Erik Ray, David Liberty, Dr. William Moehlman, Jim Moehlman, and Scott Moehlman.
Memorials may be made to Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings, Grace Lutheran Church in Giddings or to the charity of one's choice.
