Arlyn Ann Hake

Arlyn Ann (Daleske) Hake passed away peacefully at Maggie's Place-North Ridge Village of Ames, Iowa on January 12, 2026, at the blessed age of 90 years old. The family of Arlyn would like to genuinely thank those of Maggie's Place for their intentional and gracious care of Arlyn.
Arlyn was born on February 25, 1935, to Fred and Leona Daleske in Steamboat Rock, Iowa. Arlyn was raised on the family farm and, as an only child, quickly found companionship with the farm animals and daily chores. She attended Steamboat Rock High School, enjoying basketball, and graduated in 1952. She went on to attend AIB College of Business in Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated in 1953 and worked at an attorney's office in Eldora.
Arlyn met her late husband Elvern "Bud" Hake at a barn dance and married on May 19, 1956, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora. Bud and Arlyn moved to rural Radcliffe, Iowa, where they began their 65-year journey on the farm, where Arlyn continued to do what she did best - work the land and care for her family. During this time, they welcomed their four children, Dion, Korey, Chad, and Cammy.
Arlyn wore many hats in her lifetime. She was known as a quiet, friendly soul who could rock red lipstick like no other! She relied heavily on her faith, trusting that God's plan was best. She was a faithful and devoted wife, an incredible mother, and an intentional grandmother who valued that role to the utmost. Arlyn enjoyed spending time watching her children and grandchildren do what they loved most - sporting events, music recitals, and everything in between.
When not making farm meals or caring for a baby or grandbaby, Arlyn cherished her leadership roles in ELCAW, Ladies Aide, Harmony Club, and American Legion Auxiliary.
Arlyn could often be seen preparing crispy chicken for Hake family gatherings, making Bud's regularly requested pineapple shakes and Pepsi floats, strategizing for the next Easter egg hunt for the grandkids, making her famous "Grandma Arlyn Kringla", offering a Pepsi to anyone who came in the door, blaring jazz music while preparing farm meals, playing Rummy with the grandkids, and loving her family more than anything. She was often heard saying, "I love you I really do!" More than that though Arlyn could ALWAYS be seen in her red lipstick.
A few words of advice from those who loved Arlyn most:
1) Pray with intention.
2) Always offer and take the Pepsi.
3) Make sure your basement kitchen is messy and your upstairs kitchen is spotless.
4) Put a towel on the seat of your chairs at the table to keep them clean.
5) Wear red lipstick proudly.
Arlyn is proudly survived by many family members who will cherish memories of her forever. Children: Dion and Lana Hake of Marion, IA, and their children Jay and Ali Hake (Hollis and Jordi) of Lakeville, MN; Erin and Matt Gatens (Nash, Noa, Vayda) of Auburn, AL. Korey and Sam Hake of Nevada, IA, and their children Kyli and Ben Gander (Kasena, Brynna, Braylan, Kolson) of Marion, IA; Kelsey and Jake Miksell (Blake, Fisher, Davie) of Ankeny, IA; Keaton and Ali Hake (Violet and Adelaide) of Marion, IA. Chad and Jill Hake of Victoria, MN, and their children Carson Hake of Lincoln, NE; Callin Hake of Lincoln, NE. Cammy and Shawn Kolterman of Hudson IA, and their children Lexi and Peter Keegan (Cade and Virgina) of Solon, IA; Olivia and Joel Ruiter of North Liberty, IA; Victoria Kolterman of Hudson, IA. Along with her sister-in-law Merrily Hake of Camarillo, CA; niece Jennie Hake of San Francisco, CA; and nephew Michael and Jaci Hake of Ankeny, IA (Bodhi and Sophie).
Arlyn is preceded in death by her husband, Elvern "Bud" Hake, and her parents, Fred and Leona Daleske. Along with her brothers-in-law Wallace Hake, Richard Hake, and Ardell Hake, sister-in-law Rosemary Hake, and parents-in-law Walter and Olillia Hake.
Memorials may be given in Arlyn's honor to the family, where they will later be distributed to Maggie's Place-North Ridge Village of Ames, Iowa and Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Radcliffe, Iowa.
