Arme Jean Mitchell Doyle, 78, of Carterville, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 5:11 a.m. Monday October 13, 2025 at Evelyn's House Hospice Facility in Saint Louis, Missouri, surrounded by those who loved her after suffering a brain aneurysm.
A native of Dumas, Arkansas, she was born on September 22, 1947 to the late Zollie Mitchell and Jessie Hayes Mitchell. Arme was raised in a family of sharecroppers, where she learned early, the value of hard work, faith, and perseverance. Those humble beginnings shaped a life defined by resilience, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family and to God. Arme was one of twelve children raised in Arkansas. Her surviving siblings include three sisters Chessie Jones, Selena (Albert) Chaffin, DeLois (Johnny) Dodds and one brother Arthur Leon (Janice) Mitchell all of Dumas, Arkansas.
After moving to Chicago, Illinois, Arme would eventually meet and marry the love of her life, Ronald Doyle, who affectionately called her "Shorty". Together, they built a beautiful life in Bellwood, IL where they raised their two sons, Ronald II (Ronnie) and Arterio (Terry), in a home centered on the importance of faith, family and hard work. Their partnership was marked by love, laughter, and devotion and Ronald cared for her tenderly. Arme could always be heard cheering loudly from the sidelines as her boys played sports and continued to be their strongest supporter throughout their lives.
Arme built a long and respected career in sterile processing, serving at several prominent hospitals throughout the Chicago region retiring fully in 2019. For decades, she worked faithfully behind the scenes, ensuring that every tool used to care for others was clean, safe, and ready - a quiet but vital form of service that reflected her steady commitment to excellence and care. There, she forged many lifelong friendships that remained very important to her throughout her life.
Arme dedicated her life to her two boys, Elder Ronnie (Terica) of Herrin, IL and Terry (Giselle) of Montgomery, IL, and their children - Alecia, Amayah, Jasmine, Liliana and Jaden. Arme brought the same energy and joyful spirit to her role as a grandmother, celebrating each of her five grandchildren with unmatched love and enthusiasm. She played a major role in her grandchildren's upbringing and she found great joy in celebrating every milestone and accomplishment, much as she had done for her boys. She demonstrated a great commitment to supporting her family in any way that she could and was incredibly proud to contribute to their success.
A dedicated servant of God, Arme had a deep hunger for knowing Him more fully, particularly as she entered full retirement. She read through the entire Bible ten times, each journey through scripture deepening her relationship with the Lord she loved. Her faith was the center of her life - the source of her peace, her strength, and her compassion for others. She was a devoted member of Marable Temple City of Refuge in Providence, Kentucky where she faithfully served her church family. She would often read scripture and opened up service for Prayer and Bible Band and served on the hospitality team. Even in her later years, Arme remained strong and vibrant. She lived independently and walked three miles a day in the weeks leading up to her sudden illness, a testament to her enduring will and determination.
Arme was preceded in death by her parents, her five brothers Matthew Mitchell, Eugene Mitchell, Zollie Mitchell Jr., Carl Lee Mitchell and Earl Mitchell; two sisters, Nancy Lee Smith and Lizzie Hunt and her husband, Ronald Doyle Sr. In addition to her surviving children, grandchildren and siblings, she leaves behind to cherish her loving memories her stepdaughter, Frances (William) Jackson of St. Paul, MN and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the skilled team at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis and the caring staff at Evelyn's House for their compassionate care during her final days. We also wish to thank all those who joined us in lifting her up in prayer and for accompanying us as we now celebrate her life.
