Armin Genz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service on Mar. 26, 2026.
Armin Donald Genz, age 95, was called to his eternal home on Tuesday, March 24th, 2026. He was born on October 11th, 1930, to Martin and Viola Genz, in Watertown, WI.

Armin was a lifelong resident of Watertown and as a young man, worked on his parents' farm and other surrounding farms, until he served his country during the Korean Conflict as a Machinist's Mate in the United States Navy. Armin was employed in the Plating Department of Brandt Automatic Cashier Company in Watertown, WI, after which he went to work at the Watertown Post Office for 38 years, until he retired in 1999. In his spare time, Armin continued to help on the family farm and worked as a bartender at Watertown Bowl 18 and the Wethonkitha Club in Watertown. Armin also worked in his retirement years for John Christian Landscaping.

Armin met the love of his life, Evelyn Lorraine Drost, at a Clyman Fireman's Picnic. They were married on September 13th, 1958, in Watertown, WI, and had two children: Darren Mark Genz and Kim Marie (Genz) Moll.

Armin enjoyed playing baseball in Farmington and softball in and around Watertown and Ixonia. He was also an avid bowler in numerous leagues in Watertown and Oconomowoc. Armin enjoyed playing sheepshead, working in his garden and tending his flowers, watching Green Bay Packer and Milwaukee Brewers games, attending local Fireman's Picnics, listening to polka music and hearing about the adventures of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His quick wit was always refreshing and humorous.

He traveled to several countries while serving in the U.S. Navy, throughout Wisconsin, to many states in the U.S. and even to Germany to visit his family.

Armin was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and served the Lord in various positions and offices. Armin devoted his life to his wife and children and enjoyed the multitude of birthday, wedding and anniversary celebrations with his extended family.

Armin was also a member of American Legion Pitterle-Beaudoin Post 189 in Watertown, WI.

Armin is survived by his son, Darren (Cindy) Genz of Ohatchee, AL; daughter, Kim Moll of Watertown; granddaughters, Jessica (Jordan) Adams of Houston, TX, Laura (Wayne) Mizzell of Oxford, AL, and Emilee (Todd) Gauntt of Ohatchee, AL; great-grandchildren, Troy Gauntt, Rylee Gauntt, and Tyler Mizzell; five brothers, Frederick (Janet) Genz, Ward (Karen) Genz, Martin (Christine) Genz Jr., John (Vickie) Genz, and Neal Genz; three sisters, Irma (Richard) Schwartz, Lucille (Don) Kuehl, and Doris (Rolland) Ruckdaschel; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Armin was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Genz; parents, Martin and Viola Genz; four brothers, Hilbert Genz, Gordon (Alice) Genz, Robert Genz, and Eugene (Dorothy) Genz; two sisters, Arletta (Elmer) Lauersdorf and Isabel (Donald) Kurtz; five brothers-in-law, Richard Schwartz, Don Kuehl, Elmer Lauersdorf, Donald Kurtz, and Rolland Ruckdaschel; one sister-in-law, Janet Genz; and a great-granddaughter, Anna Mizzell, in infancy.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 1st, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Watertown with Rev. Jerry Ewings and Rev. Nicholas Quinnett officiating. Burial with military honors conducted by American Legion Post #189 will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Watertown, WI, with a luncheon to follow in the basement of St. John's Lutheran Church.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 31st from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Memorials can be made to St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in care of the Building Fund. Online condolences may be made at www.hafemeisterfh.com.
