Arnold Marshall Carter

1931 - 2026

South Paris – Arnold Marshall Carter, 94, passed away at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris on January 26. Arnold was born in Presque Isle on February 21, 1931, the youngest son of Maurice E. and Lizzie (Patten) Carter.

During the ministry of Reverend Joseph P.C. Johnson, a visiting evangelist from Waterville, Arnold accepted Christ as his personal Savior and remained a faithful Christian, active in church.

He was a graduate of Mapleton High School, Class of 1949, and Berkshire College, Class of 1953.

Arnold was united in marriage to Miss Ada Littlefield on August 8, 1970. Ada predeceased him on April 14, 2007. They were married for 36 wonderful years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. During his youth, Arnold worked for many farmers in the Mapleton area. He worked nearly 27 years for the Service Master Health Care Company and received recognition for his work ethic and people skills. In 1980 he was honored with the Marion E. Wade award of excellence. Arnold amazed people with his sharp memory for remembering people and events. Good natured and kindhearted, Arnold was given the gift of encourager.

Arnold was a member of the Waterville Blessed Hope Church for many years and the Fraternal Order of Commercial Travelers.

He is survived by his sister Winnifred Beaulieu of Presque Isle; his brother-in-law Ron Dipierro of Merrimack, NH; four generations of nieces and nephews; and his wife's niece and his good friend, Janice Wheeler; and his church family.

In addition to his wife Ada and his parents, Maurice and Lizzie Patten Carter, he was predeceased by his brothers, Merle "Bud", Raymond "Bill", Arthur, and Kenneth; his sisters, Gladys Hughes, Myrtle Brown, Erma Williams, Bettey Harris, and Maxine Diperrio; as well as two infant brothers.

Services for Arnold will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations in Arnold's memory may be made to the Blessed Hope Advent Christian Church, P.O. Box 473, Waterville, ME 04901.

Arnold was one of my favorite people ever. He was a kind and gentle man. I still have the briefcase he gave me over fifty years ago as a college graduation gift. If you met Uncle Arnold, you never forgot him. You were a better person for knowing him. We love you, Arnold!
