Arnold Wobbe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Zieren Funeral Home from Aug. 4 to Aug. 5, 2025.
Arnold "Arnie" S. Wobbe, age 97, of Carlyle, passed away at home surrounded by family on Sunday, August 3, 2025. Arnie was born on February 23, 1928, in Pierron, Illinois, to the late Anton and Rose (Vosholler) Wobbe. He married Fern Kennett at St. Anthony's Church on April 26, 1952. They shared 58 years of marriage before her passing on September 18, 2010. A man devoted to service and community, Arnie spent many years working as a mail carrier in Carlyle and later as a rural mail carrier in Germantown. Even after retiring from the postal service, he remained active and engaged by working as a bus driver in Carlyle for many years. Arnie was a devoted member of St. Mary's Church, where his love for faith and fellowship shone through in everything he did. He found great joy singing in the church choir and was honored to serve as both a lector and Eucharistic minister. He was also a familiar face in local athletics, dedicating years to refereeing and umpiring high school and grade school sports in Carlyle. His contributions to youth sports were recognized with his induction into the Clinton County Sports Hall of Fame. Arnie had a true love for staying active. He was known for taking regular bike rides around town and was happiest when he had a task to do or a way to stay busy. His strong work ethic, kind spirit, and sense of purpose were evident in every part of his life. He is survived by his children, Mike Wobbe and wife Cathy, and Lynn Wobbe and friend Bob Holzum; his beloved granddaughter, Natalie Wobbe (Shelby), who brought him immense pride and joy; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Arnie was preceded in death by his brothers: Tom (Adrienne) Wobbe, Harold Wobbe, Fremont "Slugger" (Martha) Wobbe, and Burnell (Helen) Wobbe; and his sisters: Lorraine (Elmer) Hochuli, Martha (Alphonse) Strieker, and Marcella "Sally" Steiner (Ferdie). A Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at St. Mary's Church. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Friday, August 8, 2025, at Zieren Funeral Home from 4:00–8:00 P.M., and on Saturday from 8:00–9:30 A.M. In lieu of flowers and other gifts, expressions of sympathy in memory of Arnie are suggested to St. Mary's Church or a charity of the donor's choice and will be received through Zieren Funeral Home, 1111 Clinton Street, Carlyle, IL 62231.
