Art, Frank Gregory and I drove to/from work at Dover High School from 1985 until Art retired in 1997 (I think). He and Frank were my mentors before they became a Dept of Ed. "thing".
They would shape and mold me during our drives, known to those at DHS as the "Canterbury Connection". They were gracious enough to include me in their carpool, and we rotated driving duties. When Art drove, we rode in his yellow and white pickup. I sat in the middle! Those were my halcyon days as a teacher. Nothing else matched them. Ever.
I learned from Art, specifically, how to be conscientious, dedicated and punctual, as I was ALWAYS the last to arrive for departure in the morning. They were endlessly patient with me as a young man.
We would stop at "The Sale" on Fridays for soft pretzels at the Amish stand (still there). Or we would stop at Dairy Queen in Camden for banana splits. Talking through my early challenges as a young teacher with Art and Frank always went better with ice cream.
Nothing I ever did in education rivaled those days. Nothing anywhere else ever matched the quality of education, collegiality and character of Dover High School in the 80´s and 90´s.
I know Art is now reunited with Ruth Ann, the love of his life, and I am forever grateful for having had him in my life. I´ll never forget him, and I owe him more than he ever knew.
God Bless you, Art.

I absolutely loved his mechanical drawing classes. He was one of my favorite teachers.

He was my teacher at Dover High School in 1985. He was a great man and later a friend from the Wild Turkey Federation. He will be greatly missed. Prayers for his family
