Arthur Curt "Sparky" Grupp

On September 16, 2025, the world lost a bright light and a beacon of hope. Arthur (Sparky) Grupp left this earth surrounded by his family after a lengthy battle with cancer. He touched many lives in his 74 years.

He was born in New York City on April 17, 1951, where he was raised by his mother and grandmother. He attended and graduated from the Rudolph Steiner School in New York City where he first developed his thirst for knowledge and wide range of interests.

After a year at Rochester Institute of Technology, Sparky's travels brought him to New Hampshire where he met his former wife, Sarah. Together, they raised four beautiful boys in Tuftonboro. During this time, Sparky coached and umpired baseball for the Babe Ruth little league. His love for children brought him to Tuftonboro Central School, where he spent 27 years and retired as the head custodian. It was there that he met the love of his life, Cindy McLean Joseph. Together, they built a life, gardening, cooking, reading, traveling and spending countless hours visiting with family and friends.

His happiest moments included cheering on the New York Yankees with his four boys and best friend Jim Clark, visiting the comic store, photography, experimenting with cooking/grilling and engaging in spirited conversations about politics. He also enjoyed being an avid volunteer for End 68 Hours of Hunger.

He is survived by his children: Alexander and wife, Ginny; James and wife Rocky; Adam; Andrew, as well as his former spouse, Sarah Grupp. He also leaves his beautiful grandchildren Lucy, Orion and Opal Grupp; his sister Mara Grupp; and his beloved life partner Cindy McLean Joseph.

He is predeceased by his parents Arthur Grupp and Barbara Brianzeva (partner Richard Brown) and his brother Robert Grupp.

Please join us for a celebration of Sparky's life on Saturday, October 4, 2025, beginning at 12 noon at his home 70 Whitten Neck Road, Wolfeboro, NH.
