Barbara Louise McGloin

Barbara Louise Bishop McGloin passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, at the age of 97. Barbara was born on October 12, 1928, in Stoneham, MA to Thaddeus and Christine Bishop, both immigrants from Nova Scotia. She grew up artistic and free-spirited, designing and sewing her own clothing, becoming an accomplished figure skater on Ell Pond in Melrose, MA and creating artwork in charcoal, watercolor, and oil.

On January 21, 1949, Barbara married Frank McGloin in Cambridge, MA. Barbara built a career in real estate in Lynnfield, MA and later worked for The Arc of Greater Boston, supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, Barbara and Frank made their home in Lynnfield, spending summers in Wolfeboro, NH. After Frank's retirement, they wintered in Longboat Key, FL, while continuing their summers in Wolfeboro. The Keniston Island summer house in Wolfeboro remains in the family today and bears many memories of Barbara hosting family and friends. In 2014, Barbara moved to Wolfeboro full-time.

A lifelong artist and learner, Barbara was an active member of the Longboat Key Center for the Arts, participated in several art groups in New Hampshire, and was a member of P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization). She was also an avid reader who loved biographies and novels, both historical and contemporary.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Frank McGloin, on July, 24 1996. She is lovingly remembered by her four children: Marcy Dow, Lisa McGloin, Gary McGloin, and Mark McGloin; her three grandchildren: Adam Dow, Aubri Keating, and Cris Dow; and her eight great-grandchildren: Alyssa Dow, Troy Dow, Brielle Dow, Tegan Keating, Tatum Keating, Tierson Keating, Fox Dow, and Mira Dow.

A celebration of life will be held at the Pinckney Boathouse, Wolfeboro, NH 03894 on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 11:00 am.
