Arthur Hanke Obituary
Art graduated from Wood River High School and later earned an associate degree in business from Lewis and Clark Community College. A proud Veteran, Art served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1969 to 1971, demonstrating exemplary dedication and discipline that he carried throughout his life. His career spanned more than three decades in the Consumer Packaged Goods industry, where he started as a stock clerk at the Tri City grocery store in Wood River, IL, before advancing to executive roles at General Foods and Dial Corporation. Art was deeply committed to mentoring his employees, fostering a work environment centered around respect and growth opportunities.
Art's personal life was filled with joy and adventure. He was a passionate world traveler, scuba diver, and an enthusiastic Jimmy Buffett fan. His love for landscaping and meticulous organization extended to every aspect of his life, including his beloved vacation home on Anna Maria Island, FL. As a devoted family man, Art cherished time with his high school sweetheart and wife of 58 years, Kathy; children, Elizabeth (Craig) Smith and Bud (Marsi) Hanke; and grandchildren, October, Emily, and Nate.
Art was preceded in death by his brother, Jeff Dover, and is survived by his loving family, including his sister, Nina (Sam) Beem, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 2 PM at the National Memorial Cemetery, 2929 E Pinnacle Peak Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85024, with attendees requested to arrive by 1:45 PM.
A Celebration of Life will follow at 4 PM at the Hanke home, 6941 E Caballo Dr, Paradise Valley, AZ 85253.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of the Valley in memory of Art's compassionate and caring spirit.

Kathy and family,
Art and I worked together back in the GF days. He was a one of a kind character and at the same time serious about his responsibilities when it came to the business. He trusted his people and expected them to deliver results. My most vivid memory of him is that you could rely on him. Those of us who knew him have fond memories of his work hard-play hard attitude. And we all hope that he Rests In Peace.

So sorry to hear of Art´s passing. Seems like our time in Danbury was so long ago. Remember when I was transferred to White Plains and having dinner in your home. Art was always a good friend.

Kathy and family,
Bonnie and I were saddened to hear of Art's passing and we are sending our heartfelt condolences to you.
During our "Maxwell House Years", Art was a supporter and mentor to Bob. Beyond work time, our families became good friends and we cherish fond memories from our times together.

Art was a great mentor in my life. We worked hard together and he always had words of encouragement.
I had not seen him since Maxwell House days, but over the years thought of him and his management style often.
