Mr. Arthur J. "Duke" Saucier, age 96, a resident of Dracut and a former longtime resident of the Centralville area of Lowell, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of the late Jeannette L. (St. Gelais) Saucier, whom he was married to for 56 years before her passing in 2016.
He was born in Lowell, on January 9, 1929, and was the son of the late Onesime and Flora (Maille) Saucier and was the last surviving child of their fifteen children.
Duke was proud to be a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, having served from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1953. He then continued his military service by enlisting in the U.S. Army Reserves until his honorable discharge in 1957.
Prior to his retirement, he worked for Guilmette & Sons as a Truck Driver for 20 years; then employed in shipping and receiving by Raytheon Company for 26 years. After retirement, Duke worked at Smith Baker Center for the Lowell Council on Aging. Although he was in his late 70's, he never considered himself a "senior citizen".
Duke's life was filled with kindness, generosity and a deep love for his family. He was a Husband, Dad, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, who was loved and cherished by all. His infectious smile and crystal blue eyes lit up the lives of all he touched. He found immense joy in going camping with his daughter and son-in-law at Bayley's Resort. He loved playing a variety of card games, watching his favorite John Wayne movies, as well as the Hallmark Christmas Channel. Duke was a true "legend," though a man of few words. His golden heart and gentle soul left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He is survived by four children and their spouses, Carmen St. Onge and her husband Leo, Raymond and Deb Saucier, Elizabeth Clement and her husband Russell and Patricia Devlin and her husband Douglas, with whom he resided; three grandchildren, Joshua St. Onge and his wife Erica, Corey Saucier and his wife Kaitlyn and Deven Gagne; great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Madison St. Onge and Baby Saucier due in November; his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Hector St. Gelais, Roland "Wes" St. Gelais, Claire St. Gelais and Patricia "Tish" Saucier; a special niece, Carrie McNamara and her husband Mark, as well as many nieces and nephews. He also leaves a special caregiver and family friend, Kathy Devlin; as well as his "grand-pups," Cooper and Daisy.
He was the brother of the late Roland, George, Paul, Alfred, Gerard, Robert, Raymond, Henry and Roger Saucier, Jeanne Benevento, Claire Dubois, Rita Villandry and Laurette Moore.
Relatives and friends will be received at the TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME, 4 Cassaway Dr., Tyngsborough on Friday, May 30 from 4 to 8 p.m. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Parish, 1340 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut. Committal services with Military Honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford. Those wishing may make a donation in his memory to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, http://www.T2T.org or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org or an organization of your choice.
