Arthur J."Artie" Smoot, 86, of Kiel died Saturday morning December 13, 2025 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice where he had been a patient for the past week. He was born in Fond du Lac on July 29, 1939 to Donald and Evelyn (Hoerth) Smoot. Artie attended Holy Rosary and St. Ann Catholic Schools and was a 1957 graduate of New Holstein High School.

On July 27, 1963 he was united in marriage to Shirley Struve at St. George Catholic Church, Elkhart Lake. Artie had previously worked at Gilson in Plymouth and Tecumseh Products, New Holstein. He worked for Sohn Mfg. for many years while also selling real estate until his retirement. He was an active member of the Elkhart Lake Lions Club. He held several offices, collected eyeglasses, worked at blood drives and helped do eye testing in schools. He was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow and received his 50 year award in 2021. During many of those years he also ran the food stand at Road America for the club. Artie was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas and the Hermitage Club for many years. In his free time he enjoyed time with friends playing cards, weekends at Crooked Lake and fishing, especially his trips to Minnesota.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years; Shirley, sons; Loving dad to Don (Dawn) Smoot, Joe Smoot (Brent Frederick), sisters-in-law; Sharon V. Struve, Sharon Struve, Janice Struve, brother-in-law; Tim Lensmire along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Artie was dedicated to his community and was a friend to many, he will be missed those who knew him especially his dog Buddy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son; Randy Smoot, brothers-in-law; Walter, Allen, Roland, Warren, Stan Struve, sister-in-law; Judy Lensmire.

Funeral Services for Artie will be held at 6:00pm on Friday December 19, 2025 at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt-DeTroye Funeral Home (815 6th St. Kiel) with Deacon Pat Knier officiating. A time of visitation will take place at the funeral home from 3:00pm until the time of services. Cremation will follow and burial will take place in the St, Thomas Aquinas Catholic Cemetery.

Artie's family would like to thank the many neighbors who have helped in so many different ways. They would also like to thank the nurses and staff at Sharon S. Richardson for all the help and support they gave Artie in his last days.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name for Charities supported by the Lions Club.
