Arthur F. Stokes, 88 of Round Top, passed away January 2, 2025. He started life in Faith Mission Orphanage in Crystal Beach, Florida. He passionately enjoyed both music and art throughout his childhood. Before college he served three years with the Marines. He started his college experience at Bob Jones University where he planned to major in both these passions but was told he could choose only one and he chose piano. This choice has ultimately brought Arthur, and those listening, a lifetime of piano joy.

He moved to Denver, Colorado in the 1960's and obtained his Master's Degree at Denver University. He then taught in the Jefferson County schools until his retirement. In the mid 1980's, he started to turn his focus to Fine Art Photography. Arthur studied with renowned photographer Scott Engle. Arthur's drive and talent led him to celebrated shows at Denver's Ginny Williams Gallery and the Center for Creative Arts Therapy.

In 1993, Arthur's talents brought him to Round Top, Texas, where he became the official photographer for the acclaimed Festival Institute allowing him to be enveloped in both photography and music. Arthur further developed his skills in portrait photography and even transitioned "kicking and screaming" to the digital age of photography. Arthur found success with numerous shows in the area including the Downtown Gallery in Brenham, the ARTS in Fayetteville, the Live Oak Art Gallery in Columbus and the Houston FotoFest. His photography has earned him countless awards over the years including Best in Show, Best Photographer in Show, and First Place here and there.

More recently, Arthur worked fervently on the Pandemic Porch Project. Additionally, he and his keyboard performed modern jazz arrangements to Round Top residents with a special outdoor concert at Henkel Square. Those in attendance were thrilled to experience the great music and bask safely in each other's company. In Round Top, Texas Arthur found his home and has been one of Round Top's most cherished residents for over 30 years.

Art is survived by his daughters, Shelley and Eva; stepdaughter, Nina; granddaughters, Gabrielle and Angelique; grandson, Forrest; great grandson, Colton; and many loving friends.

His Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at Festival Hills Chapel on March 2, 2025, at 3pm. Ceremony will be performed by Father Bill of the St. Cecilia's Episcopal Church.
