Dolores Audrey "Dee" Bergquist-Coye

Dolores Lee Bergquist-Coye', a retired Orleans Parish principal and world traveler, was called to her heavenly home on Monday, September 1, 2025, at the age of 95. Dolores was born in New Orleans. She was a long-time member of Sigma Gamma Rho, NAUW and St. Luke the Evangelist Church in Slidell. She graduated from McDonogh 35 High School at the age of 15, Xavier University and the University of Denver. Dolores served the New Orleans Public School System for more than 50 years. Prior to Hurricane Katrina, she was the last elected President of LRTA.

Dolores leaves to cherish her memory her grandsons: David Neco, Sr., Byron Johns, Jr (Bryon J Muhammad) and Jason Johns; great-grandchildren: David Neco, Jr., Donte' Neco, Jayla Neco, Najah Johns, Javian Neco, Jada Johns, Mecca Johns, and Salaam Johns; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her husband Philip Coye', parents, Reason Lee, Sr., and Hilda Lee; her son, Byron Johns, Sr.; and her siblings: Reason Lee, Jr., Rosetta L. Young, Mamie L. Paige, Joe N. Lee, Ernest L. Lee, Calvin Lee, Sr., George R. Lee (Hakin Mujahid), Michael G. Lee, and Ursula Lee.

Relatives, friends, and members of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, New Orleans Public School System, St. Tammany School System, and Coca-Cola are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70119, (504)482-2111. Father Suvakin Aruoandu will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Cemetery, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124.
