Carolyn Ann O'Rourke Castellanos, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and lifelong homemaker, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 4, 2025. She was 84 years old.
A native of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell for the past 30 years, Carolyn was known for her warmth, creativity, and devotion to family. She attended Annunciation School and was active in the Jaycees as a young woman, where she met the love of her life, Lance Castellanos. They shared 62 joyful years of marriage.
Carolyn dedicated her early years to raising her children and later worked as office staff in clinics at Methodist Hospital in New Orleans East and Slidell Memorial Hospital. She was a talented amateur seamstress, often sewing clothes for her family and creating cherished embroidered keepsakes, including christening gowns worn by her grandchildren and wedding dresses worn by her daughter and daughter-in-law. Carolyn and Lance also enjoyed taking trips and outings with the Golden Opportunities Club.
Her passions included gardening alongside her husband, walking through her neighborhood, cooking for holiday gatherings, and treasure hunting at garage sales and Goodwill. She had a beautiful singing voice and filled her home with music while she worked.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Florence and Gerald O'Rourke. She is survived by her devoted husband, Lance Castellanos; her children Elaine C. Schnadelbach (Bret), Stephen Castellanos (Sandy), and David Castellanos (Ellen); her sister Geraldine O'Rourke Theriot; niece Karen Fenner and nephew Raymond Theriot. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Sarah Schnadelbach, Rebecca S. Troulliet (Jeremy), Benjamin Schnadelbach (Kara), Rachel Schnadelbach (fiancé Oliver), Kathleen Castellanos, Kelly Castellanos (fiancé Hampton), Grace Castellanos, and Anna Castellanos; and her great-granddaughter Delilah Kate Troulliet.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Egan Hospice and Home Instead for their compassionate care.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Slidell, followed by a funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery.
Carolyn's legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
