Arthur Eugene (Gene) Venables departed from this life on May 23, 2024 at McCrea Manor Nursing Home following a 6 month decline in health.

Gene was born on May 20, 1941 to Arthur Venables Jr. and Mary (Molnar) Venables. He graduated from Alliance High School in 1959 and was a proud member of the 1958 Alliance Aviator Football Team State Champs. He continued playing football while attending Ashland College. He began his career in law enforcement with the Alliance City Police Department followed by and retiring from the Ravenna Arsenal as a security guard, moving on still as a part time guard at the Longaberger Basket Factory in Hartville. Gene was a member of the Alliance Elks Lodge and St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

He was predeceased by his wife, Joanne (Thelman) Venables, whom he lovingly cared for during her three year illness; his brother, Alan J. Venables; and niece Kati Mari (Venables) Mueller.

Left behind to cherish his memories are the two most loved in his life, daughter, Laura Lynn Venables Smith and granddaughter, Bailey Smith both of Springfield, Oregon; sister, Janet (Venables) Predagovic and husband Paul; and special nephew, Alan Venables and wife Stacie; along with many great nieces and nephews and extended family.

Per Gene's wishes there will be no services.

Rest in peace Gene. You fought a battle that couldn't be won and are safely in the arms of your maker where there will be no more pain.

Thank you to McCrea Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and special thanks to Crossroads Hospice for your special care when most needed in his final days.
