Obituary for Arthur "Dale" White

Arthur "Dale" White, 82, of Steubenville, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 10, 2026. Born on October 12, 1943, Dale was a lifelong resident of his beloved hometown of Steubenville-where he was born, grew up, and ultimately passed away.

A proud alumnus of Steubenville High School, Class of 1961, Dale was deeply rooted in his community and his faith. He spent his youth and remained a lifelong member of Finley Methodist Church. Known for his integrity, work ethic, and vibrant storytelling, Dale had a story for everyone and a knack for making people feel seen and valued.

In 1964, at just 21 years old, Dale became the youngest car salesperson ever at Riley Chevrolet in the Pittsburgh District-a testament to his ambition and charm. His lifelong love of cars was evident in the meticulous care he gave his vehicles throughout his life.

From 1964 to 1968, Dale proudly served his country in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Knox where he served as a tank commander. Though selected for Officer Training School, he chose to return home to Ohio after his service. He remained a devoted member of American Legion Post 33 and took great pride in his military service.

Upon his return from the Army, Dale returned to Weirton Steel as a rigger and began earning his degree from West Liberty State College. He completed his studies in 1973. Dale had a long and distinguished career at Weirton Steel Company. Starting as a rigger, his dedication and leadership led him to roles as a Union Steward with the ISW, positions in sales, and ultimately, many years representing Labor Relations before his retirement after three decades of service.

A sports enthusiast and loyal supporter of Big Red football, Dale held season tickets since 1962 and cherished Friday nights spent with friends at Harding Stadium. He was also an avid Ohio State football fan who could recall game stats and moments from countless seasons.

Dale loved life's simple pleasures-visiting his brother and family in Myrtle Beach, spending time at the Jersey Shore, and catching live shows in Atlantic City with his beloved wife, Denese. His sense of humor, sharp memory, and generous spirit will be dearly missed.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Richard H. and Irene Robinson White; brother, Richard H. White Jr.; his in-laws, Merle and Wanda Bush; brothers-in-law, Merle "Bucky" Bush and Ronnie Briggs; sister and brother-in-law Darla and Jim Anderson, and his faithful dog, Edie.

He is survived by his loving wife, Denese R. Bush White, who he married June 28, 1975, and shared fifty years of marriage as his constant partner and companion through all of life's adventures. He is also survived by special sisters-in-laws, Sandra Briggs of New Cumberland, WV, and Tracey White of Surfside Beach, SC as well as three generations of special nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. Private family services will follow, with interment at Fort Steuben Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in his memory to the Old Fort Steuben Project, Steubenville, Ohio. Those wishing to share a memory or offer condolences may do so at shorac.com.

Dale lived a life defined by loyalty, service, and love-values that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
