Arvin Rudd Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mitchell Funeral Home, Inc. - Price on Mar. 16, 2026.
Arvin Rudd

HUNTINGTON/SOUTH JORDAN- Arvin Rudd, 89, passed away peacefully in South Jordan, Utah on Friday, March 13, 2026.

Born in California on June 2, 1936, Arvin was the eldest child and only son of Radia and Marty Rudd. From a young age, Arvin was a responsible young man who helped provide for his mother and three sisters, even beginning his career at age 14 driving a gravel truck for his father.

In 1954, Arvin met Helen Chidester, and they were married on June 2, 1956. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Manti Temple. Together, they shared over 66 years of marriage until Helen's passing in 2022. Arvin missed his wife dearly and often credited her with making him the man he became. They were blessed with five children: Tom, Murry, twins Robert and Roberta, and Kelly.

Professionally, Arvin worked for Bunnells in Price for many years before moving his family to Moab, where he delivered and set up mobile homes. In 1971, he purchased his own truck and became known as "The One Utah Red Dragon," a career he proudly followed until his retirement.

Arvin loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, loved to play golf and enjoyed camping with family and friends. Arvin and Helen spent a summer in Alaska, probably one of the highlights of Arvin's life. He often spoke about their Alaskan adventure, sharing crazy details about their journey to Alaska. They pulled their travel trailer through Canada to get to Alaska where every evening when they stopped for the night they had to pick up everything that had come out of the cupboards as they traveled this very rough road. But they loved the adventure.

Arvin retired in his late 50s and he and Helen began the greatest adventure of their life. They traveled the United States from Maine to Arizona and beyond. They made many friends wherever they traveled. As they got older Quartzsite became their winter home. They couldn't wait each year as winter approached to get back to Quartzsite and catch up with all their great friends.

Arvin and Helen served several missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They worked on church farms in Nebraska, Arizona, and Utah, and served at Martin's Cove in Wyoming, where they helped others learn about the pioneer handcart experience. They also served at the Bluff Fort historic site in Bluff, Utah.

Arvin was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen Chidester Rudd; his son, Robert; his daughter, Roberta; great-grandson, Jack Drayden Curtis; parents, Marty and Radia Rudd; sister, Connie Rohbock; and sister, Radia Covington.

He is survived by his son, Tom and partner Eric Carcellero; his son, Murry and wife Diane; and his daughter, Kelly and husband Gary Oviatt. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; and sister, Elizabeth Willingham.

Funeral Service, Monday, March 23, 2026, 1:00 p.m., Huntington Stake Center (240 North Main Street) in Huntington. The family will receive friends from 12:00 (noon) – 12:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the Huntington City Cemetery.
