Asa Meche, 86, of Lake Charles, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026.
Asa was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather whose quiet strength and steady presence anchored his family. A simple man with a giant heart, he spoke few words but showed his love through his actions every day.
As a young man, Asa proudly served his country in the US Army. Later He also served the community for 24 years with the Lake Charles Fire Department. When he wasn't working, Asa found peace in his woodworking shop, spending countless hours crafting with his hands and building pieces that will be cherished for years to come.
Asa was a social soul who never met a stranger. Each morning, he could be found at the local barber shop, making the pot of coffee and sharing easy conversation with friends. He treasured life's simple routines and the people who filled them.
He especially loved time spent traveling the open road in his motor home with his wife and best friend, Mary Lois Trahan Meche. Above all else, Asa adored his grandchildren and cherished every moment surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Lois Trahan Meche; his son, Michael Meche (Stephanie); his three grandchildren, Dylan Meche, Tyler Meche (Allison), and Maddison Meche; and his brother, Kenneth Meche.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex Meche and Gracie Downs Meche; and his son, Dr. Thomas Meche.
A graveside service will take place on Friday, March 13, 2027 at 11am at Old Ritchie Cemetery in Moss Bluff.
Asa will be remembered as a quiet, strong, and steady man whose love ran deep and whose presence will be greatly missed.
