Ashley Counce Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by L.A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home on Dec. 5, 2023.
Ashley Nell Counce Bloodworth, MD, was born on August 9, 1970 and passed away at her home on November 12, 2023, at the age of 53. Ashley was born in New Orleans and was the daughter of the late Dr. John Henderson Counce, II and Yvonne Nell Counce. Ashley is survived by her loving husband of sixteen years, Clayton Gerald Bloodworth, his parents, brothers, sisters and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her mother, Yvonne Nell Counce, her nephew, John Henderson Counce, IV (Jack) and his mother, Carolina Counce. She was predeceased by her brother, John Henderson Counce, III.
Ashley attended Newcomb Nursery School and Metairie Park Country Day School from kindergarten through 12th grade. After high school, Ashley attended Georgetown University and graduated from Tulane University with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in biology and chemistry. Later, she continued her studies in medicine and graduated from Tulane Medical School, earning her M.D. degree, after which she did a residency program in Dermatology and Allergies at Tulane. She later practiced medicine, joining her father's private practice in Dermatology.
Ashley was nationally recognized during Hurricane Katrina for diagnosing the rare Stevens Johnson Syndrome at Ochsner's Medical Center. She enjoyed and took great pride in treating and caring for retired veterans and referring to them as "America's Greatest Generation!" Ashley enjoyed carnival and during her debut year in 1991, she was honored as queen of Proteus. She had a passion for traveling and her favorite places were the Amalfi Coast of Italy, St. Barts Island in the Caribbean, Aspen and Sundance. She loved ballet and enjoyed charity walks and races throughout the city. The Crescent City Classic Race was her favorite. However, her biggest passion was her two pet British Labradors, Messer and Mac, who were her children; she often said, "A house is not a home without a Labrador."
Ashley loved French cooking and Julia Child recipes while cooking at home with her husband and Labs.
She was a beautiful girl with so many incredible talents! She will be missed by her many patients, friends, colleagues and all who knew her.
Her funeral was private. Consider donations to the SPCA or Adopt a Pet in Ashley's memory. Arrangements entrusted to L.A. Muhleisen & Son.
