Asimina Boutzoukas Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

It is with great sadness that the family of Asimenia Boutzoukas announce that she passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the age of 88. Asimenia was born in Girokomio, Patras, Greece on March 4, 1937 to Chrysanthi and Mihali Mantzourakis. She boarded a boat to immigrate to America in 1956, celebrating her 19th birthday as she crossed the Atlantic Ocean. She settled in Jackson Heights, Queens, NY with her beloved sister and their family. Throughout her life, she held all five of her siblings close to her heart despite the ocean between them. In 1960, she met Emanuel Boutzoukas an immigrant from Crete, Greece and they were married just a few months later. They welcomed their sons James and Michael in Queens, and raised them in Yonkers, New York until 1977 when they moved the family to Florida in search of a better place to raise their sons.
Asimenia, or "Menia", was a talented seamstress, and began her own business in Florida making custom window treatments and drapes–even making many of the window treatments for the set of the Oscar winning movie Cocoon. She was a keeper of traditions and maker of memories for her family, consistently emphasizing the importance of family in everything she did. Her home was always welcome to family and friends to share a meal, a cup of greek coffee, or a game of cards. She was an example of strength, dignity, and faith–a subtle force of
nature–made evident in the way she cared for her husband of 62 years through sickness and in health. She had immense pride in her family, never missing an opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments, spend time with them, or grace them with her delicious avgolemono or dolmades.
She was preceded in death by her parents–Mihali and Chrysanthi Mantzourakis –her siblings–Sevasti, Stella, Kostas, Vaggelis, and Maria–and her "sweethearty", Emanuel Boutzoukas.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, James (Mia) Boutzoukas and Michael (Christine) Boutzoukas as well as her grandchildren Maria (Lygheri) Boutzoukas, Asimina (Thanasi) Pantazelos, Joanna Boutzoukas, Angelique (Bradley) Taber, Emanuel J. (Nicoletta)
Boutzoukas, and Emanuel M. (Yanna) Boutzoukas. She will be deeply missed by her great-grandchildren, Peter, Christiana, Michael, and Kalliopi, who she adored and always
greeted with the warmest smile and special treats. Her family will seek to carry on her legacy by embodying her strength and grace.
