Assunta Mannarino, affectionately known as Susan or Suzie, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the age of 91, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Born in Naples, Italy, Susan immigrated to the United States at the age of sixteen. With courage, determination, and a fierce spirit, she embraced a new life, learned a new language, and became a proud citizen of the United States-always holding her Italian roots close to her heart.
Together with her beloved husband, Susan helped run the family's Italian restaurants and pizzerias. In addition to working alongside him, she also worked full-time at PVC Container Corp-always willing to do whatever it took to support her family. A tireless worker with endless energy and resilience, Susan set an example of dedication and selflessness that inspired everyone who knew her.
Her home was filled with the irresistible aromas and flavors of her homeland. She was an incredible cook who poured love into every meal, turning simple ingredients into treasured traditions. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, celebration, and countless memories.
Susan was known for her spunk and candor. But her greatest pride and deepest joy came from her family-especially her grandchildren. As she would say, "My grandchildren are my breath." They were the center of her world and the heartbeat of her days.
She is survived by her daughter Anna Maria Mannarino; her son and daughter-in-law Nick and Laurie Mannarino, and their children Nicholas, Amanda, and Daniella; her daughter Dolores Chiara; her daughter and son-in-law Gina and Domenick Pardo, and their children Susan, Anthony, Luca, Natalie, Massimo, and Lucy-Bella; and her dear sister Mafalda Pagliuca, who resides in Naples, Italy.
A devoted wife, loving mother, proud Nonna, and cherished sister, Susan lived a life full of love, sacrifice, and joy. She leaves behind a family deeply grateful for her unwavering love and the many beautiful moments they shared. They are at peace imagining her together again with their dad-her love of sixty years.
Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Tuesday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 882 Broadway, West Long Branch.
