ATHANASIOS FLESSAS Obituary

FLESSAS, Athanasios P. Of Watertown, passed away on June 30. Born in Kalamata, Greece, in 1934, Thanasis became a doctor in Thessaloniki, and then worked in Athens, where he met and married his wife, Effie, in 1962. They came to Boston in 1965, where he became a cardiologist. He lived with determination, hard work, generosity, kindness, and respect for the dignity of others. He had an unerring instinct for pretension and a subtle and irrepressible sense of humor. He laughed at us and loved us, and most of all, he loved our children, who loved him very much in turn. He died at home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Effie; his children, Tatiana, Marina, Gregory, Daphne, and Myrto; and his grandchildren, Loukás, Sophia, Zoë, Danaë, Thanasis, Clea, Voula, Zerihun, Alia, and Ariane. He is also survived by his brothers, Leonidas and George; his beloved sister, Maria; and their children; and his sister-in-law Miranda Cambanis. Relatives and friends are invited to visit in the DeVito Funeral Home, 761 Mt. Auburn St., WATERTOWN, on Tuesday, July 9th, from 10:00am – 12:00pm noon. A Funeral Home Service will be held at 12:00pm noon. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the last place he volunteered: India Center, Imane Free Health Stop, 152 West Main St., Shrewsbury, MA.
