Athena Pergins Obituary
Athena Pergins, age 91, of Canton, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, June 15th, 2024. She was born in the village of Kato Poria, Greece. She is preceded in death by her parents Anesti and Ruth Papadopoulos, husband Theodore Pergins and sister, Evgenia, and brothers Theodore and Andreas. She is survived by her children Peter, James and Ruth Pergins. Grandchildren Elena, Thena and Theodore Pergins. She is also survived by her sister Irene and goddaughter Maria, godson Alexander all from Greece and godson Chris Nash of numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. She arrived in the United States in the 1950's and met Theodore and they got married in 1958. Mom was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Koraes Ladies Society, Senior Citizens Club and the Pontian Club. She was a fantastic cook and everyone loved her famous "pishia". Mom was loved by everyone who knew her, she was a loving and caring person, devoted wife, mother, yiayia and friend. Her passions were cooking, gardening, traveling, being with her friends and most importantly spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed, ' M
Family and friends will be received Thursday morning on June 20th from 10 to 11a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with Funeral Services to follow at 11a.m., Rev. Dr. Nick V. Gamvas officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations in Athena's name can be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
