We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Audrey Crowder Wakeman Walker,
a devoted wife, beloved mother, cherished grandmother, and loving friend, who left us on November 3, 2024, at the age of 83. Her departure leaves an irreplaceable void in the lives of all who had the privilege to know her. Audrey was born in Quincy, Massachusetts on March 16, 1941, to Richard Vickory Wakeman and Sally Jane Crowder Wakeman Doering. She is survived by her loving siblings; Snow Wakeman, Richard Wakeman, and Wiley Wakeman, and she treasured the bond they shared throughout her life.
Audrey graduated from Park School, Brookline, Massachusetts in 1949; Friends Academy, North Dartmouth, Massachusetts in 1955; Beaver Country Day, Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts in 1959; and Simmons College, Boston, Massachusetts in 1961. Audrey married her soulmate, Dr. James Elliot Cabot Walker, MD, on July 11, 1965, in Marion, Massachusetts. Together, they nurtured a deep, loving partnership that endured until Jim's passing on January 6, 2011. Their love story is a lasting legacy, as they shared a love of sailing, travel, and family. With Jim, Audrey built a family and home and took immense pride in her role as a mother. She is survived by her beloved children, Holly Nixon and her husband, Jeffrey of Rumson, New Jersey, and James Walker and his wife, Cari, of Greenwich, Connecticut, and 8 beloved grandchildren; Jessica Nixon, Amy Nixon, Allison and Tyler Plante, Gregory Nixon, James Walker III, Elizabeth Walker, Edward Walker, and Charlotte Walker. Audrey's graciousness, warmth, and kindness touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She had a gift for making each person feel special and valued. Audrey had a passion for gardening, knitting, and needlepoint. She volunteered and shared her talents with the communities of their residences in Avon and West Hartford. Audrey attended and volunteered extensively in her church, Saint John's Episcopal Church, and embraced her community with kindness and grace. A special thank you to the entire staff of UConn Health Center in Farmington Connecticut and its Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit, and Accent Care Hospice program for their support in Audrey's final days.
