Audrey "Audie" J. Ehrig, 86, of Hudson, passed on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital in Waterloo.
Audrey Jean Stein Ehrig was born on December 2, 1938, in Waterloo. Audrey was the daughter of John and Gladys Stein. She graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1957. She married Virgil Ehrig on October 4, 1958, at the Reinbeck Community Church in Reinbeck.
Audrey was a childcare professional for 42 years, providing lots of love and care in her home.
She was a member of the Community Church of Hudson for many years where she taught Sunday School and Bible School, served as the circle chairperson, and was a member of the Mission Board.
In their younger years, Audrey and Virgil enjoyed going dancing. Over the years, she enjoyed traveling with Virgil to visit their children, going on several cruises and trips to Las Vegas and other locations.
Audrey and Virgil were avid fans of the Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball teams and she did not like to be interrupted during a game. She also enjoyed shopping, a trait she passed on to her three daughters, along with going out to dinner with Virgil. She leaves behind a legacy of love and joy she shared with many in the community.
Audrey is survived by her husband, Virgil Ehrig of Hudson; three daughters, Brenda (Brent) Flessner of Mesa, AZ, Shelley (Mark) Downing of Urbandale, IA, and Traci (Scott) Goodale of Colorado Springs, CO; and two grandchildren, Hunter (Holly) Goodale of Ashland, VA and Dalton Goodale of Clearfield, UT.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Gladys Stein.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Community Church of Hudson. A private family burial will take place at Reinbeck Cemetery in Reinbeck prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mission Group at the Community Church of Hudson. Condolences may be left at www.LockeFuneralServices.com. Audrey was an institution around Hudson with her child care. She provided discipline, security, hugs, and love to many local children, my grand children among them. They spoke only with admiration, love and respect for both Audrey and Virg. Rest in peace Audrey
