Dan Ehrig (51) of Albuquerque passed away unexpectedly on Friday evening, February 14, 2025, due to an apparent heart attack. He had been in good health and active up until that time.

Born on February 22, 1973, at the Air Force Academy Hospital in Colorado Springs to Dave and Glenda Ehrig, Dan was the youngest of two brothers. He spent his childhood in various locations, including Anchorage, AK, Mill Valley, CA, and Stuttgart, Germany, before graduating from Eldorado High School in Albuquerque. It was there that he discovered his passion for football.

Dan attended the University of New Mexico, earning his degree in Information Management Systems while also being an active member of his fraternity, Kappa Sigma. His dedication and hard work marked his career, and he continued to build upon the skills he gained in his studies. Dan worked for Presbyterian Health Services as a Software Developer before moving to SouthwestRe (later iA American Warranty Group) where he currently worked as an Application Development Manager.

He was married to Carmen Torres for many years, during which he embraced his role as a loving stepfather to her two children, Antonio and Autumn. Dan’s devotion to family and his unwavering support for his loved ones was one of his most defining qualities.

Dan had a deep passion for sports, particularly following the University of Texas Longhorns, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Boston Red Sox. He was an enthusiastic fan who loved discussing games, players, and sports history. His loyalty to his teams was matched only by his love for his pets. His faithful Vizsla, Cooper, was his constant companion and a source of comfort.

Dan was an incredibly bright and well-informed individual who was always up to date on current events and politics. He had a unique ability to express his viewpoints with clarity and conviction. His conversations were never dull, and he was known for his compassion and caring nature. Dan loved deeply, and his generosity and kindness impacted everyone who knew him.

Dan is survived by his brothers, Greg and Ryan; his mother, Glenda, of Durango, CO; and his sister, Annette, of Cottage Grove, OR. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at Strong-Thorne Mortuary on Friday, February 28, 2025, at3:00 pm, immediately followed by a reception at Albuquerque Press Club. All are welcome to join in celebrating his life and sharing memories.
