Audrey Ruth Holzman, of Northbrook, Illinois, passed away peacefully in her own bed, surrounded by the love of her family, on October 9, 2025.
Born on April 5, 1929, in Chicago, Audrey attended Sullivan High School, where she met her lifelong partner, Milton "Mickey" Holzman, around seventh grade. Family lore recalls that he was hanging from a tree outside her window when she first noticed him – a moment that began a love story spanning nearly half a century. They married on March 26, 1950, and shared 46 years together until Mickey's passing in 1996.
Audrey was the rock of her family – steady, strong, and always there when she was needed. Fiercely independent and deeply devoted to those she loved, she valued honesty, togetherness, and loyalty. Family was everything to her.
She loved reading and treasured time with her family. Her greatest joy came from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she affectionately called her "babies and greats." She delighted in their stories, their laughter, and the small treasures they would discover during visits to her home.
Audrey was the devoted mother of Carole Holzman Sears, Lisa (David) Bemoras and the late Herbert Holzman; much loved mother in-law of Jody Holzman Barnett; dear sister of Robert (the late Lois) Berg; loving grandmother of Scott (Deborah) Sears, Matthew (Samantha) Sears, Jessica Holzman, Michael (Natalie) Bemoras, Danielle (Benjamin) Lazarov, and Alec Holzman; and proud great-grandmother of ten. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Milton "Mickey" Holzman, and her son, Herbert Holzman.
