August Pfaff, a vibrant spirit, born on June 17, 1933, in Harthausen, Germany, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on February 22, 2026, in
Naples, Florida.
Although August cherished his German heritage for the duration of his life, his journey to the United States as a young man marked the beginning of a new chapter. He learned English, trained as a plumber, and went on to work in New York City. He took immense pride in his work, particularly his contributions to The Plaza Hotel and Mount Sinai Hospital. His impeccable work ethic and resilience were admired by all who knew him.
August was an accomplished musician, enchanting friends and family alike with his talent on the accordion and guitar. His love for music was only rivalled by his love for physical activity. A skilled skier, gymnast, and ballroom dancer, August embodied vitality and a zest for life.
His devotion to the Catholic faith was a source of pride and greatly influenced his life. He piously attended weekly Mass and lived a life in the light of our Lord, Jesus Christ. He was also a dedicated viewer of Fox News and had a soft spot for whiskey sours, gin and tonics, and Chardonnay wine. His life was always brimming with activity and his social calendar was a testament to his many friends and his sociable nature.
August is preceded in death by his wife Mary Grace, and his siblings, Thea and John. He is survived by his sister Hedi, his three children Peter (and daughter-in-law Linda), Louis, and Lisa, his grandchildren Jessica, Nicole, Austin, Louis Jr., Lena, and Bruce, and his great grandson Hudson.
August's life was a testament to the power of hard work, devotion to Christ, the importance of family, his commitment to his friends, and the joy of a life well-lived. He will always be remembered as a man of great spirit, kindness, and dedication. His infectious energy and joyful spirit will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
