SEDELMEIER, AUGUST A. "BUD", 96, of Louisville, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025.
Bud was born on June 16, 1929, in Louisville, Kentucky. He attended St. Vincent DePaul grade school and graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1947. He was a member of St. Barnabas and then St. John Paul II Catholic churches since the late 1960s. Most importantly, he was the most reliable and generous Dad and Pawpaw that anyone could ask for. He made his way up the ranks of the L&N Railroad from secretary to Manager of Staffing with over thirty-five years of dependable and dedicated service.
He would fix and build things with ease and cut grass for enjoyment! He was very practical. If something needed to be done, he simply did it. In addition, he was extremely gracious in giving gifts – from helping each grandson procure a car to making donations to nearly every organization that sent him a solicitation – but he found it much more difficult to receive them. And he liked cars. In fact, many suggest that before becoming a parent he liked to drive them quite fast.
Bud is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Betty A. Sedelmeier as well as his parents August M. and Evelyn M. Sedelmeier and his sister Mary Lou Elder.
He is survived by his children, Greg Sedelmeier (Jerri) of Katy, Texas, and Kevin Sedelmeier (Elizabeth) of Louisville, his five grandchildren, Daniel, Jonathan, Ethan, Lukas, and Mason Sedelmeier, his great-granddaughter Mabel, and many nieces and nephews.
His grandsons recall him visiting on many occasions, remembering birthdays with cards and cash, attending their sporting events, picking them up from school, and doing various other things that a proud Pawpaw does.
The family also wants to give sincere thanks to the kind, compassionate, and skilled staff at The Legacy at English Station. Your efforts to include, respect, and know our Dad are much appreciated and will be remembered. Also, the Hosparus staff that often visited him and helped in his care showed much warmth and expertise and asked nothing in return. We are grateful for that.
The memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 A.M. Friday, September 12, 2025, at St. John Paul II Catholic Church, 3539 Goldsmith Ln., with burial to follow in St. Michael Cemetery. A visitation at the back of church will be held from 10-11.
In lieu of flowers and in memory of Bud, expressions of sympathy can be made to Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes (Type I Diabetes) or the charity of the donor's choice.
