Dr. Augusto Rosas, cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and esteemed physician, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on June 13, 2025. Born on July 6, 1935, in the rural town of Aquitania, Colombia, Augusto's journey was one marked by dedication, compassion, and a relentless pursuit of knowledge.
Augusto's early years in Colombia laid the foundation for a life of service and learning. He began his studies in medicine at the prestigious Universidad Nacional in Bogota, Colombia. His quest for medical excellence led him to the United States, where he completed postgraduate training at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, Connecticut before his fellowship in renal diseases at the University of Colorado Medical Center in Denver.
For nearly half a century, Dr. Rosas devoted himself to the practice of internal medicine and nephrology in Orange County, New York. His dedication to his patients was evident in his attentive care and the long-standing relationships he built, often having multiple generations of families as his patients. In addition to his private practice at his offices in Middletown and Goshen, he served with distinction on the staff of Horton Memorial Hospital and Arden Hill Hospital, and then Orange Regional Medical Center, before retiring from practice in 2017.
Augusto's professional accomplishments were paralleled by his rich personal life. He and his wife of over 58 years, Margaret, raised a family that became his greatest source of pride and joy. Their children, Charles (married to Laura), Kevin (married to Cristiane), Christina (married to Charles), and Maggie (married to Stephen), brought them twelve cherished grandchildren: Peter, Alexander, Theodore, Emily, Anna, Isabella, Charles, Kevin, Stephen, Meghan, Thomas, and Ethan. His sister Elsa, brother-in-law, Guillermo, and his nieces and nephew, Julieta, Dario, and Natalia, along with many cousins and extended family in Colombia, will fondly remember his kind and gentle nature. For the past several years he served selflessly, patiently and lovingly as his wife's caretaker, as the symptoms of her Alzheimer's Disease progressed.
Augusto's love for his family was paramount; his grandchildren, in particular, were the light of his life. During their infancy, he carried each gently in his arms, and as they grew he reveled in their accomplishments and adventures, providing unwavering support as they pursued their various interests.
Those who knew Augusto would describe him as patient, caring and intelligent - a true gentleman and scholar. His legacy is one of extraordinary kindness, a thirst for knowledge, and an enduring commitment to his family and his patients.
Dr. Augusto Rosas's life was a testament to the profound impact one person can have on so many lives. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, yet his spirit will continue to inspire us. His memory will be treasured, his lessons cherished, and his example followed for generations to come.
