NEW BEDFORD – Austin O'Shea Mignault, 32, of New Bedford, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford.

Born on December 18, 1992, in Boston, Austin was the beloved son of Mandi (Mignault) Laranjo of West Wareham and Benjamin Leighton of Wareham.

Austin faced the challenges of cerebral palsy with incredible strength and resilience from birth. He was formerly a resident of New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton and most recently resided at Vibra Hospital of Southeastern Massachusetts in New Bedford.

Despite his physical limitations, Austin lived a life filled with joy, adventure, and love. He especially enjoyed horseback riding, traveling, and sailing-activities that brought him freedom and happiness. His spirit and smile touched everyone who knew him.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing him.

Survivors include his father, Benjamin Leighton of Wareham; his mother, Mandi Laranjo of W. Wareham; his siblings, Indigo Leighton, Zenari Laranjo, Zaiyin Ulianelli-Leighton and Hollis Laranjo all of W. Wareham, Tyrone Cabral and Micajah Gore both of RI, Jaylen Gore, and Zachary Barrios both of New Bedford; his aunts, Julianna Leighton of Wareham, Juanita Leighton of Falmouth, and Danielle Connolly of Wareham.

Services will be private.
