Avenell May Coats, 82-year-old resident of Jay, Oklahoma went to her heavenly home on February 28, 2024. Avenell was born in Dalhart, Texas on November 5, 1941, to Woodrow and Esther (Munson) Buchanan. She was united in marriage to Eddie Gene Coats. They devoted their lives to raising and caring for their family. Avenell was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Avenell is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Eddie Coats; her parents Woodrow and Esther Buchanan; her brother Robert Buchanan; her sister Virginia DePuy; her son-in-law Darrell Harp; her grandson Michael Davis and her granddaughter Valerie Coats.
She is survived by her brother Woodrow Buchanan Jr, and his wife Jackie of Washington, her sister in law Sondra Hostin and husband Richard of California; her children Doris (Coats) Rhoads of Jay, Debra (Coats) Davis and husband Steven of Jay, James Coats and significant other Vicky of Grove, Donna (Coats) Harp of Miami; her grandchildren David Blevins and significant other Krystal, Jeffrey Blevins and significant other Holly, Jason Davis and wife Melissa, Krystal Sharwarko and husband Nick, Jaime Coats, Cody Wood and wife Chele, Randy Harp and wife Rachel; 24 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Avenell dedicated her life to loving and caring for her family, she will be so dearly missed. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church of whom she considered all her extended family.
Avenell’s Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at New Hope Baptist Church in Jay, Oklahoma on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 10:00 AM, followed by a graveside service at Spavinaw-Strang Cemetery in Spavinaw, Oklahoma.
